 Residential Woodstove Changeout Program

Update November 3, 2011: The Residential Woodstove Changeout Program has allocated all vouchers.  Please call (530) 634-7659 ext 210 to be placed on the waiting list for a voucher.

The Feather River Air Quality Management District is offering vouchers to residents of Yuba and Sutter Counties who replace or retrofit an old wood stove or wood burning fireplace with a cleaner, EPA-certified appliance.  To quality, you can replace a:

Pre-1990 wood stove with a new, EPA-certified wood stove

Pre-1990 wood stove with a pellet stove

Pre-1990 wood stove with a gas-stove

or

Retrofit existing fireplace with a EPA-certified insert.

The woodstove or fireplace must be in operational condition, and permanently installed in a residence in Yuba or Sutter Counties.

The 2011 grant program begins on October 28, 2011, at 3:00 pm.  The District has allocated $20,000 for this program.

Vouchers will be mailed directly from the District and will contain the District's official seal.  The vouchers should arrive around November 1 and must be redeemed by November 30, 2011.  Any unredeemed vouchers will be given to the next person on the waiting list.

Vouchers must be used at a pre-approved retailer.

The District will host a workshop on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 4:00 pm.  The workshop will be held at the Yuba County Government Center, 915 8th Street, Marysville, in the Wheatland Room (formally Conference Room #2).  At the workshop District staff will review the program and answer questions.

More retailers to be added as requested...

If the retailer you would like to purchase the device from is not on the list of pre-approved retailers, have the retailer contact the District.  Only pre-approved retailers may redeem vouchers.  The vouchers are only valid if the device is purchased through a pre-approved retailer.

Step-By-Step Process

1. Call (530) 634-7659 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Friday, October 28, 2011, to request a voucher .   Vouchers will be first come, first served.   The District will continue to take requests for vouchers until all 40 vouchers have been allocated.  After that, requests will be placed on the waiting list.

2. All vouchers will be mailed directly from the District and should arrive around November 1, 2011.  The vouchers will have an expiration date at the top and will include the official District seal.

3. Shop at a pre-approved retailer.  A list of pre-approved retailers is available on this website or by calling the District at (530) 634-7659. If the retailer you would like to purchase the device from is NOT a pre-approved retailer, tell them to call the District to get approved.  Do not purchase a device from a non pre-approved retailer, or the voucher is NOT VALID!!!

4.  Once you have found the device you would like to purchase, enter into a purchase agreement with the pre-approved retailer and give them your voucher.  The pre-approved retailer will apply the $500 discount to your invoice.  You must enter into a purchase agreement and give the voucher to the retailer before the expiration date or the voucher will be void and unredeemable.

5. The OEM-approved installer will install the new device.  Some jurisdictions may require a permit to install a new woodstove or fireplace insert and we recommend calling your local building department.

6. Enjoy your new heating device and operate it properly to minimize particle pollution and maximize efficiency.

Retailer Information:

Retailers must be pre-approved by the District in order to participate in the Program.  You must have a signed Retailer Agreement on file in order to redeem the vouchers.  YOU WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR THE VOUCHER IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SIGNED RETAILER AGREEMENT!!!

For information on how to become a pre-approved retailer, please contact Sondra Andersson Spaethe at (530) 634-7659 ext 210.
