Alternatives to Burning

Instead of burning, especially illegal burn materials, try to find a use for the material: recycle aluminum cans, plastic containers, and glass, sell lumber for resizing and reuse, compost vegetation for the garden, use tree bark, trimmings, sawdust and straw for landscaping or mulching, use seasoned wood logs and "clean" lumber for heating your home, call a salvage company to pick up lumber, metal piping, wire, vehicles, appliances and other salvageable materials. Dispose of hazardous wastes (oil, paint, antifreeze, household cleaners and solvents,...) at your local household hazardous waste collection center.  Build a dog house, bird house, or a tree house for the kids with scrap lumber, metal, wire, fabrics, furniture, and paints. Take old clothing to a business for resale or locate a charitable organization that will find someone who could really use a fresh set of clothes.  If all else fails, consider hauling it off to the dump site, it's cheaper than paying a first offense fine issued by the Air Pollution Control Officer.
